A DSP for the current cinema of Millau… and the future
The current cinema of Millau

The public service delegation has been renewed for the 4-screen local cinema, which will soon move, still in the center of the Aveyron sub-prefecture.

It is Artec, the structure headed by Charles Vintrou, which was (re)chosen by the City of Millau to operate its cinema, i.e. the team which had already won the DSP in the summer of 2021, then under the GPCI flag. The 4-screen cinema, classified as art house and labeled Young Audience, has strengthened close ties with its audience in recent years, notably thanks to the “ very good mediation work by its director, Muriel Balay, who arrived in 2023 during our mandate », recalls Charles Vintrou, saying « very happy to continue the adventure with her HAS”. Nothing was a foregone conclusion, knowing that the municipality has changed in the meantime and that Artec was not the only candidate to run for the delegation. But above all, the Millau cinema will be completely rebuilt during the five years covered by the DSP, to be established in a wasteland, still in the heart of the city.

The new complex will still offer 4 rooms, “ but much better equipped and offering comfort to current standards. It will have real reception and mediation spaces, will meet accessibility and environmental standards, knowing that the current building is a real thermal sieve “, explains Charles Vintrou. However, it is too early to detail the project in more detail, for which the new municipality has not yet appointed an architect but which estimates the cost of the work at 4.2 million euros. The current CinéMillau recorded nearly 68,000 admissions in 2025, but had almost returned to its pre-Covid levels the previous year, with 89,000 admissions. For the future establishment, the study carried out by Ciné Conseil in 2024 estimates, with a cinematic influence area of 41,000 people, a potential attendance of between 120,000 and 135,000 annual admissions.

What is certain, “ it will be a real local cinema “, rejoices Charles Vintrou who is also assured, therefore, of being associated with the project via Artec, of which he is today a 100% shareholder. As a reminder, Artec was bought by the operation branch of the GPCI in May 2022 and now includes 12 DSP cinemas. The GPCI has once again become exclusively a programming agreement.
