The Chasselas de Moissac AOP begins a new era with the election of Julien Custody as president. At 39 years old, this producer wants to combine local heritage and innovation to strengthen the sector in the face of competition.
The Chasselas de Moissac AOP Defense Union has found its new president. Julien Custody becomes president. At 39 years old, this producer based in Cazes-Mondenard, in Tarn-et-Garonne, succeeds Claude Gauthier, an emblematic figure in the sector who had firmly held the reins of the appellation for fourteen years. This election opens a new chapter for the famous golden grape, in an agricultural context marked by strong changes and increased competition.

A career in agricultural equipment
Born in Montauban and from a family of producers, Julien Custody is a native of the country with a unique background. Graduated in agricultural equipment in 2006, he first cut his teeth for more than ten years in high-tech industry (Kverneland, John Deere), specializing in precision agriculture and the modernization of equipment on a national scale.

In 2017, when his father retired, he chose to return to the land and took over the family farm. Under his leadership, the Cazes-Mondenard estate increased from six to seventeen hectares, divided between Chasselas AOP and table plum. An expert profile, which aims to embody the link between respect for heritage and technological innovation.

The new president displays clear ambitions for the future of the precious grain: “I love innovation while being attached to the heritage that Chasselas de Moissac AOP represents. It’s a difficult balance to find, but essential.”

To succeed in this mandate, Julien Custody wishes to rely on the new inter-professional association AIRSO in order to strengthen the attractiveness of the sector. Its priorities are clear: optimize production costs – particularly packaging – and defend Chasselas as a free planting variety against licensed varieties. Faced with economic challenges, the young president finally launches a call for collective mobilization, inviting all producers to get actively involved in loudly asserting the unique identity of Chasselas de Moissac.
