Municipal councilor in charge of heritage during the previous mandate, Caroline Glon has gained ground and is now deputy in charge of cultural actions in La Baule (Loire-Atlantique).
Far from an elitist vision, she advocates an accessible culture: “What I would like […] it means creating a more open culture, truly for everyone, more popular but in the good sense of the word. HAS”
“Promote Breton culture and identity”
This desire is intended to translate into an “outside the walls” policy, aiming to bring events to all districts of the city.
Symbol of this opening, the Music Festival will, for the first time, be celebrated in all neighborhoods (Guézy, Escoublac, casino…) on Sunday June 21.
“The idea is to integrate the locals, so that they don’t have the impression that events are happening in La Baule and that they are completely excluded. HAS”
Due to her new functions within the municipal majority, Caroline Glon has decided not to run for president of VigiBretagne.
But she is determined to highlight Brittany and promote its culture and identity. With, for example, a 100% Breizh exhibition “every year or every two years”, in line with the one currently organized on traditional Breton costumes at the Boesch museum in Pouliguen (but owned by the City of La Baule). By organizing more events like fest-noz or fest-deiz…
“People in La Baule are still very attached to Breton culture despite what we think of it. And tourists always have the impression that they are coming to Brittany when they come here. HAS”
She wants La Baule to not just be a beach destination.
Several projects are already in the pipeline to strengthen the cultural offering:
- the transformation of the Sacré-Cœur chapel, located next to the Atlantia convention center and festivals, into a “heritage chapel”;
- the creation of an exhibition space in the former Departmental Council building, Place de la Victoire, to echo the Sainte-Anne chapel, Place Leclerc
- or the project for a new theater venue in Escoublac.
Highlight small heritage
Beyond large buildings, Caroline Glon pays particular attention to “small vernacular heritage”, such as monumental crosses, Michelin markers or the remains of the Atlantic Wall. “Highlight this small heritage […] and make La Baule also become a place for cultural visits. HAS”
Founder of the association “Safeguarding the heritage of La Baule and Escoublac” and the Facebook group “Souvenir de La Baule”, Caroline Glon likes the idea of being “transmitter of memory, transmitter of tradition […] so that new arrivals also feel integrated.”
In short, it is about allowing the people of Baule to “reclaim their history and be proud of it”.
