With its €2,200 in prizes distributed to runners throughout the laps, the Saint-Louis criterium is one of the most competitive cycling races in the region. The elite of the Grand Est, but also the best runners from Switzerland and Germany, therefore invariably find themselves there.
The race takes place on a closed circuit of one kilometer starting from the Forum to successively take the rue des Acacias, Vauban and Huningue, before, along the Place de l’Europe, returning to the Forum via rue Alexandre-Lauly.
Scheduled for a duration of 75 minutes and 5 additional laps to complete, the race once again promises a high-level spectacle, spiced up by numerous bounty hunts that the pure sprinters will compete with the adventurers in their escape attempts.
A great popular festival
Despite the numerous turns which force the riders to make multiple restarts and the chicanes which dot the circuit, Lukas Baldinger (UC Haguenau) won last year with an average exceeding 43 km/h. If the peloton is not idle, note that the City’s technical services will have taken care of the situation beforehand, by sweeping the bitumen carefully before the race and ensuring optimal security by installing barriers and hay bales.
A cycling critrium, a free spectacle, is experienced first and foremost, beyond its sporting aspect, as a great popular festival. The arrival area will be hosted by the microphone of the inoxidable Jean-Jacques Zwibel, “the voice of the criterium”, and, in the catering area, the visitor will have plenty of time to taste pizzas and other delicacies. An atmosphere to experience with family, friends, enthusiasts or a little less…
