In direct from the Auditorium of the Maison de la Radio et de la Musique.

Program First Part The concert tonight is part of the SuperPhonics series, an initiative aimed at introducing middle and high school students to contemporary music by exposing them to recent works and organizing meetings with composers of all styles and backgrounds. This initiative, established in 2000, now reaches over 5,000 young people from 135 schools! Each year, the program culminates in a day where the votes of the students are revealed and the winning work is premiered. This year, the acclaimed work is “N43” by Elisabeth Angot, offering a poetic journey through a sonic landscape.

The “Piano Concerto No. 2” by Sergei Prokofiev is a youthful composition that he revised a few years later. Before this piece, Prokofiev had already created a first piano concerto in 1912, which he considered his “first relatively mature composition.” Not long after, he composed the second concerto in 1913, showcasing remarkable youthful vigor.

Second Part To understand the genesis of the “Symphony No. 9 – New World,” we must go back to 1892, when Antonín Dvořák took over the New York Conservatory. Inspired by the music of Native Americans and African Americans during his travels in the U.S., Dvořák composed this symphony in just a few months, infusing it with themes and rhythms from these cultures. His American experience was essential in creating this Czech piece, reflecting his homeland in new ways.
