“Historical results”. According to the latest figures from Choose Paris Region, the agency responsible for the development of tourism in the Île-de-France region, tourism in the Paris region is booming as it reviews the results of the year 2025. During this period, the area welcomed over 50 million visitors, confirming its position as the “world’s leading tourist destination,” as praised by the agency. This visitation has positive economic impacts on the economy of the Paris region, with a record of €24 billion in tourism revenue. Behind these good numbers are contrasting local dynamics.

Foreign clientele on the rise

After a successful year in 2024, marked by the Paris Olympics effect, 2025 performs even better, especially on the international front. While the French visitors are less numerous in the region (-1% compared to 2024, down 9% compared to 2019), the foreign clientele represents 23.2 million tourists in 2025, an increase of 3% from 2024 and 4% from 2019.

Additionally, this clientele has a higher purchasing power compared to the French population based on the expenses made by tourists in 2025: €8 billion for visitors from France (a 6% decrease from 2024) and €15.6 billion for international tourists (5% increase).

The most represented nationalities are the United States (2.8 million visitors, +1%). Following them, the European neighbors are the most frequent visitors to the Île-de-France region: United Kingdom (2.5 million visitors, +2%), Italy (1.6 million, +2%), Germany (1.5 million, +1%), Spain (1.4 million, +2%).

In 2025, the airports in the Paris region recorded 107 million passengers throughout the year, a 3% increase from 2024 but a decrease compared to 2019 (-1%).

Departments with varying results

From department to department, the results vary. For instance, Paris, despite the Olympic year in 2024, experiences a 2% decrease in visitation compared to 2024. However, with its 29.2 million overnight stays, it surpasses other departments by far. The second most visited, Hauts-de-Seine, sees just over 4.2 million visits (up 1%). Ranking fifth out of the eight departments in the region, Val-de-Marne experiences a surge in visitation with a 12% increase (2.7 million). Seine-Saint-Denis, an Olympic land particularly favored during the Games, drops to sixth position (-11%, nearly 2.5 million visitors).

The difference between Paris and other departments is evident in hotel performance, with tourists preferring central accommodation. Hotel room occupancy rates are increasing in Paris across all categories, from budget to luxury, while these numbers decline in hotels outside of Paris.
