The British group will provide electronic warfare capabilities intended to strengthen the protection of land vehicles against drones and anti-tank missiles.
BAE Systems announced that it had been selected by the American army as part of the “Soft Kill APS” active protection system program intended for land vehicles. The contract leverages the Rapid Optical Observation and Kill (ROOK) solution, designed to disrupt and neutralize incoming threats, including drones and anti-tank guided missiles.
The system uses electronic countermeasures to jam or deceive enemy guidance systems before impact, thereby improving crew survivability while preserving the capabilities of kinetic defense systems.
“Soft-kill technologies are an essential complementary element of a multi-layered defense,” said Dave Gillespie, director of optical solutions and countermeasures at BAE Systems. He added that ROOK offers a “cost-effective and durable” defense with continuous jamming capability.
The program also provides for the development of the Stormcrow and TERRA RAVEN countermeasure systems, as well as the delivery of prototypes for integration and testing on vehicles.
