Football – New jerseys for the French national team unveiled
With 85 days to go before the start of the French team in the World Cup on June 16 against Senegal at MetLife Stadium, the FFF revealed their new jerseys on Monday. The home kit, blue, features the return of the white polo neck, while the away kit is, for the first time, green-gray, in homage to the Statue of Liberty, given by the French to the Americans as a sign of friendship at the end of the 19th century.
Basketball – Title for Wembanyama and the Spurs
By winning their sixth consecutive game on the Heat’s court on Monday night (136-111), the Spurs clinched the championship title for the Southwest Division, a first for the Texan franchise since the 2016-2017 season. The French center of San Antonio also continued his streak, despite a lack of success in three-pointers (1/7), compiling, in 26 minutes, 26 points, 15 points, 5 blocks, and 4 rebounds.
Cycling – Godon too strong for Evenepoel
The first stage of the Tour of Catalonia saw a French victory on Monday. After raising his arms already in the penultimate stage of Paris-Nice, Dorian Godon won in a sprint finish against a certain Remco Evenepoel, after a very close battle. “I think I passed Remco a little too soon, I should have waited a bit, it was so tough. I was among the first five or six heading towards the final climb. I started my sprint 400 meters from the finish line, but it was really long and the last 50 meters seemed endless. I made it, so I am really happy,” later confessed the French champion to Eurosport.
Tennis – Atmane’s feat
While Corentin Moutet did not really stand a chance against Jannik Sinner, three French players managed to reach the round of 16 at the Miami Masters 1000 alongside Arthur Fils. Ugo Humbert defeated Alexander Shevchenko, Quentin Halys dominated Kamil Majchrzak, and Terence Atmane achieved a feat against Felix Auger-Aliassime. The player from the north of France secured the third top 10 win of his career by beating the Canadian in three sets (6-3, 1-6, 6-3).
