Vietnam – China: Strategic exchange between foreign ministers The Vietnamese Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Hoai Trung and his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi held a strategic exchange on March 15 in Hanoi on the occasion of the 17th steering committee session of bilateral cooperation and the first ministerial-level strategic dialogue on foreign affairs, defense, and public security between Vietnam and China.

During the event, Minister Le Hoai Trung, a member of the Politburo and Vietnamese Minister of Foreign Affairs, had a strategic exchange with his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi. The two countries were holding the 17th steering committee session of bilateral cooperation and the first ministerial-level strategic dialogue on foreign affairs, defense, and public security between Vietnam and China.

Minister Le Hoai Trung warmly welcomed Wang Yi’s visit to Vietnam and appreciated the strategic exchange between the two foreign ministers during the strategic dialogue session. He noted this as evidence of high-level political confidence, close strategic ties, and comprehensive cooperation between the two countries.

Congratulating China’s recent socio-economic achievements, Minister Le Hoai Trung expressed Vietnam’s confidence in China’s vigorous development and support for its contributions to peace, stability, and development in the region and the world. He reiterated that the Vietnamese Party, state, and people always consider strengthening and developing relations with China as a strategic choice and top priority in Vietnam’s independent, autonomous, multilateral, and diversified foreign policy.

China expressed support for Vietnam’s Communist Party Central Committee, led by Secretary General Trong, in governing the country to achieve even greater success. China also expressed readiness to enhance strategic trust with Vietnam and work together to bring tangible benefits to the people of both countries.

Both ministers acknowledged the significantly positive and overall progress in Vietnam-China relations recently, emphasizing the need for diplomatic entities of both countries to closely follow high-level common perceptions, maintain close coordination, and effectively implement the deepening of the comprehensive strategic partnership while promoting the building of a strategically significant Future Community Vietnam-China according to the orientation of the “Six More”.

They also highlighted the importance of proper preparation for high-level exchange and contact activities at all levels, along with accompanying ministers, sectors, and localities to create new breakthroughs in substantial cooperation, contributing to elevating relations between both parties and countries to a higher level.

Regarding suggestions for enhancing substantive cooperation, Minister Le Hoai Trung proposed improving the quality and efficiency of cooperation in various fields, promoting balanced and sustainable trade, maximizing imports of goods, particularly Vietnamese agricultural products. He also recommended enhancing strategic connectivity, strengthening quality investments, promoting technology transfer in industrial cooperation, and closely coordinating efforts to ensure energy security.

Additionally, he suggested increasing the number of scholarships awarded to Vietnam, especially in fields such as basic sciences and high technology, and encouraging further substantive cooperation between localities, enhancing tourism cooperation to increase visitor numbers between the two countries, and further intensifying bilateral cultural cooperation. China expressed readiness to coordinate closely with Vietnam to effectively implement high-level common perceptions and proposed strengthening economic, trade, and investment cooperation.

China is prepared to encourage major companies with strong capabilities to expand their investments in Vietnam, provide more bilateral and multilateral scholarships to Vietnamese students, and further promote cultural, educational, and tourism exchanges. The two parties also had a sincere and frank exchange on maritime issues and regional and international matters of common interest.
