The security professions are recruiting and intend to make it known. Thursday May 21, 2026, the France Travail agency in Lisieux (Calvados) invited their representatives to a forum, open to all, in its premises on avenue Guillaume Le Conquérant.

This fourth edition brought together the national police, municipal police, gendarmerie, army, firefighters, customs, civil security and local private security companies.

“The objective is to introduce job seekers to the many career opportunities in these sectors. These are long recruitments, through competitive examinations and aptitude tests, but it is important to have this first direct contact, if only to break down certain preconceived ideas around these professions.”

Olivier Poleyn, France Travail Pro advisor at the Lisieux agency.

Spotlight on customs

For the first time, customs were present. Attached to the Ministry of the Economy, Finance and Industrial and Digital Sovereignty, the border and merchandise administration brings together around 16,500 agents.

“We do not maintain law and order, but participate in securing the country through diversified missions: controlling goods, fighting against trafficking, organized crime and the financing of terrorism, supporting businesses… Our force of action is colossal,” underlined the management representative regional office of Caen, who wished to remain anonymous.

Recruitment takes place through competitive examinations accessible to all profiles and without age limit for the three categories: A (from bac + 3) for inspectors, B (from bac) for controllers and C (from the college certificate) for observation agents.

“A customs officer can specialize in various fields, such as dog handler, investigator or even IT. The qualities required? I would say curiosity, tenacity, availability, the ability to question oneself in the face of evolving crime and mobility because when you enter school, you don’t know where you will be assigned,” explained the customs.

In the city center next year?

Thursday morning, around sixty job seekers were able to go from stand to stand to obtain information and consider a possible career in these professions. The operation will be repeated next year but the organizers are considering moving it to the city center in order to attract a wider audience.
