The Royal Air Force plane carrying British Defense Minister John Healey this week suffered jamming of its GPS signal during a flight near the Russian border, according to The Times newspaper.
While he was returning from Estonia on Thursday, where he had gone to meet British troops deployed in this country, “the satellite signal from his government plane was interrupted,” said the daily on Sunday, a journalist of which was on board the aircraft.
Phones and computers could no longer connect to the Internet and pilots had to use alternative methods to determine the location of the plane, a Falcon 900LX, during the three-hour flight.
According to the daily, Russia is suspected of being behind this incident, which is not the first of its kind. In 2024, the plane transporting from Poland the Minister of Defense of the conservative government of the time Grant Shapps also suffered jamming of its GPS signal while passing near the Russian enclave of Kaliningrad.
Downing Street had indicated that this type of jamming was not unusual near the Russian enclave. The British Ministry of Defense declined to comment.
