Alex Miller, 23, a former Israeli army combat soldier from the United States, recently died in what appears to be a suicide. He suffered from post-traumatic stress related to his military service.
According to the municipality of Katzrin, in the Golan Heights, where his father Danny lives, the young man, who was then serving in a combat unit, was moderately injured during a car-ramming attack perpetrated in 2022 in the West Bank. Despite a grueling rehabilitation process, he still insisted on rejoining the ranks of the army alongside his comrades.
According to the municipality, Miller was also deeply affected by the death of his close friend, Master Sergeant (Reserve) Noam Shemesh, 21, killed in combat in southern Gaza in 2025.
Miller, his father’s only son, had to obtain special parental permission to go into combat.

“We mourn this terrible loss and share the family’s deep pain. We send a huge thought to his dear father, Danny Miller, during this particularly difficult time,” the municipality said in a press release.
