The Israeli army struck the Qasmiyeh bridge in the district of Tyre in southern Lebanon on Saturday, March 22. Located on a major road axis connecting villages in the south to the rest of the country, this bridge held significant strategic importance. According to the IDF, it was being used by Hezbollah to transport weapons.
The strike, which occurred around 4 p.m., is part of a targeted campaign to destroy critical civilian infrastructure. “The Qasmiyeh bridge is one of the most strategic axes in southern Lebanon,” emphasized journalist Arthur Saradin. This marks the third targeted bridge in just a few days, following a warning issued by the Israeli military on Wednesday.
Humanitarian conditions on the ground are rapidly deteriorating. Israeli bombings in Lebanon have already resulted in nearly a thousand deaths and displaced over a million people, according to Arthur Saradin.
Despite repeated orders to evacuate the area, thousands of civilians remain trapped in the south of the country. The Union of Municipalities of Tyre estimates that more than 30,000 people are still living in the area, unable to move to safety due to the ongoing conflicts and the gradual destruction of communication routes.
