The Principality club overturned their Rhône counterpart this Sunday (1-2), on the occasion of the 27th round.
Lyon may have seen the podium move away definitively this Sunday, by losing to Monaco (1-2) in the 27th round of Ligue 1. It may still be a bit early to assert this categorically, but with an eighth consecutive match without a victory in all competitions, the Rhône team is plunging into crisis, and sees the Monégasques, in great form, drawing level with a point.
However, this Sunday, Lyon’s affairs had started well with Pavel Sulc scoring at the end of a first half dominated by visitors (1-0, 42nd minute). Shortly after, Corentin Tolisso hit the post and Endrick lacked opportunism. But as soon as the second half began, the dynamics of the match turned in favor of ASM, who equalized through Akliouche (1-1, 62nd minute), before Balogun scored a penalty (1-2, 72nd minute) to give them the advantage.
In the last quarter of an hour, Monaco wasted several clear opportunities to increase the score while Nicolás Tagliafico, a sad recidivist, was sent off as he was three days earlier against Celta de Vigo in the Europa League. If Lyon remains 4th after this clash, just ahead of Monaco, the position of the Gones seems more fragile than ever. The international break may allow the Lyonnais to regroup before entering the final stretch of a season that is becoming increasingly difficult for Paulo Fonseca’s men, who are now running out of steam.
