War in Ukraine: 600 drones, several deaths, Russia targeted by one of the largest attacks since the start of the conflict

On Sunday May 17, Russia claimed to have been the target of an attack by Ukraine, by around 600 droneswho made three dead in the Moscow region and one dead in the Belgorod regionaccording to BFM. It is one of the most massive attacks since the start of the conflict four years ago.

For its part, the Russian government assures that Russian anti-aircraft defense shot down around 600 Ukrainian drones, between 10 p.m. and 7 a.m. (local time), and 30 drones between 7 a.m. and 9 a.m. (local time). This attack is of much greater force than the previous attacks observed most often. They took place over 14 Russian regions and over annexed Crimea and the Black and Azov Seas. Moscow is therefore the most affected region. According to the mayor of the Russian capital, plus de 80 drones ont été arrêtés in its airspace above the city. One of the Ukrainian strikes left twelve people injured. In the northwest of the country, a woman was killed. And two other people died in the commune of Mytichchi.

A Ukrainian response

In the Belgorod region, on the border between the two countries, a man was also killed after one of the Ukrainian drones hit a truck in the Chebekino district. This Ukrainian offensive is presented as a response, after the deadly Russian strikes that occurred during the night from Wednesday to Thursday.

Following these Russian strikes, 24 people died, including three teenagers, and around fifty other people were injured. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky therefore warned that a response to this Russian attack was being planned.
