He is tall, wears small glasses and is never far from Jordan Bardella. François Durvye, originally unofficial advisor to the National Rally (RN) since 2021, particularly on economic issues, has been completely official since April. His title: special advisor to Jordan Bardella. This 42-year-old polytechnician, former general director of Otium, the investment fund of far-right billionaire Pierre-Édouard Stérin, put his financial career on hold and agreed to considerably lower his salary to support the RN’s presidential adventure. That of Marine Le Pen whom he coached for the debate between the two rounds in 2022 or of Jordan Bardella? “Both with the same enthusiasm,” replies the one who allowed the flame party to come into contact with the big bosses.
Financial and political end
The reality is a little more subtle: by showcasing the exchanges between the elite of the bosses and the RN, it is the last touch of standardization that it contributes. Since his association with the far-right party became public knowledge, his life has not changed. Only a couple of friends turned their backs on him. That’s not much for this type of character who has one of the most extensive address books in Paris. It also includes Arnaud Montebourg, who is among his friends. François Durvye is a shareholder of Alfeor, of which the former socialist minister is chairman of the board of directors. They have points of agreement, particularly on industry… and many disagreements.
Like any good business leader who has objectives, the new special advisor to the president of the RN takes on the problems one after the other without affect, with method and perspective. This makes him a political end, also with the objective of power in less than a year.
François Durvye of course largely inspired the drafting of the RN’s economic project, which will not be the same as that of 2022 because of the deterioration of public accounts. He is thinking about how to broaden the electoral spectrum of the party, which is still struggling to attract some retirees and urban dwellers in the metropolises. Economic credibility will be part of the solution and this will give the “special advisor” even more weight.
