The second and final day of the festivities dedicated to the Caritats, the medieval festival of Béziers, brought together a few hundred people this Saturday, May 16 on the Allée Paul-Riquet.
Costumes, concerts of medieval recorders, or even wooden cannons, the Paul-Riquet alleys of Béziers came to life to celebrate the Caritats this Saturday, November 16.
All day long, the public enjoyed a program of live shows: costume parades, beef fights, equestrian shows, jousts and even cannon firing. The more daring could try their hand at ax throwing, tree climbing, wooden games, or even try the pottery workshop. Many craftsmen demonstrated their talents as stonecutters, glass blowers and stained glass artists. The day concluded with a musical fountain performance on the theme of the Middle Ages.
This medieval-inspired animation took some liberties with history, notably on the stands of the “medieval market and food” which offered cookies, invented in the 1930s in the United States. And, more surprisingly, wood engravings featuring the logos of famous car manufacturers.
Pain bénit
The inauguration of the “village†by Robert Ménard, mayor of Béziers, continued with the distribution of bread to the crowd, after they were blessed. The maneuver should symbolize “charity” in the words of the mayor. Bread and games therefore.
