The silence of weapons, to some extent. While it was supposed to happen on Sunday, May 17, Lebanon and Israel have agreed to a 45-day extension of their ceasefire, as indicated by Le Figaro. And this, within the framework of a second day of talks in Washington between the two states.

“The cessation of hostilities from April 16 (the date on which the agreement was concluded, Editor’s note) will be extended by 45 days to allow for further progress,” said Tommy Pigott, a spokesman for the American diplomacy. “The extension of the truce and the implementation of a security component facilitated by the United States offer essential respite to our citizens, strengthen state institutions, and pave the way for lasting stability,” specified the Lebanese delegation to the United States, in a statement relayed by the presidency.

On his part, the Lebanese Prime Minister indicated that his country had experienced enough “irresponsible” wars carried out in the name of foreign interests. Nawaf Salam also believed that only the army should have weapons in the country.

Despite the first ceasefire that came into effect on April 17, the IDF continued its strikes on Hezbollah, killing at least 400 people, according to official figures. Following the war launched by Israel and the United States against Iran on February 28, Hezbollah dragged Lebanon into a regional conflict, targeting Israeli positions. Since the beginning of this war, in Lebanon, 2,951 people have been killed in Israeli strikes, according to Lebanese authorities.
