Paul Pogba injured in Monaco training

Paul Pogba has fallen victim to an injury during AS Monaco training, which means he will be absent for the match against Strasbourg this Sunday. Another setback for the French midfielder.

The midfielders for Monaco, Frenchman Paul Pogba and Russian Aleksandr Golovin, who are both injured, have not been called up for the last match of the Ligue 1 season against Strasbourg on Sunday, the club announced on Saturday. According to the medical report provided by the Principality club, Paul Pogba was injured during training.

For his return to competition after several seasons without playing due to major injuries and a suspension for doping, the 2018 World Cup champion (91 caps) has participated in six league matches with Monaco, starting only once (playing 58 minutes in the victory against Metz on May 2).

Fractured hand for Golovin

He was also called up five other times without coming on (twice in the Champions League against Pafos and Galatasaray and three times in Ligue 1, including last week against Lille). Additionally, the Russian midfielder Aleksandr Golovin, who suffered a fractured right hand, is also ruled out for this 34th and final matchday of Ligue 1, as confirmed by the club.

The same goes for the English international defender Eric Dier, who suffered a knock to his left ankle. Monaco, currently 7th in Ligue 1 with 54 points and the highest non-European qualifying club, will travel to face 8th-placed Strasbourg with 50 points on Sunday night. They still have a chance to claim 6th place from Marseille, who have 56 points and are hosting Rennes.
