OL Lyonnes Advances to the Final of the Women’s 1st League
OL Lyonnes secured their spot in the final of the Women’s 1st League by defeating Nantes 8-0 in the semi-finals on Saturday at the Groupama Stadium. The match was clearly dominated by the Rhodaniennes after halftime. The final will take place on May 29 in Décines-Charpieu against either Paris Saint-Germain or Paris FC, who will face off on Saturday night (9:00 PM).
After a slow first half with several offensive shortcomings, although they still had a significant advantage in possession (73%), the Lyonnaises significantly increased the pace and took control within the first fifteen minutes after the break.
Melchie Dumornay, scoring a brace (46, 60), led the team, followed by goals from Vicky Becho (50) and Wendie Renard (53), quickly giving the French champions a four-goal lead.
Nantes Overwhelmed
Nantes, finishing 4th in the regular season, continued to endure the onslaught from OL Lyonnes. Lindsay Heaps scored the fifth goal (67) and Ada Hegerberg completed a hat-trick (80 on penalty, 85, 90). Nantes had a chance to score through a shot by Mariam Toloba that hit the crossbar (69).
