On the square of the Château de Rémelfing, the first notes will have a birthday scent. Saturday May 23, from 6:30 p.m., the cross-border music festival REM will celebrate its fifteenth edition.
Rémelfing will experience an evening of music open to all, supported by the Interassociation, the municipality and the twinned town of Sulzbach/Saar.
The REM festival was created on the initiative of Daniel Schmit, former president of the Interassociation.
Ska, soul, jazz…
The Saint-Pierre de Rémelfing fanfare will open the evening. The Moselle group Intemporel will then take over with its covers carried by young talents, including Giuliana Lo Sardo, semi-finalist of The Voice Kids in 2024, and Benjamin Stock, 15 years old, has already appeared on stage with Indochine at the Galaxie in Amnéville.
Myal will take the audience on a journey to roots reggae, dub, ska and rocksteady. The Saarland group TGB will bring the Franco-German touch with covers revisited in a more rock color. The Soul Hunters will bring soul, jazz, blues and funk to life, before DJ Fred Sons closes the evening.
Respond to public expectations
For Christophe Ochs, this programming responds to public expectations. “We tried to mix youth, different varieties of music and especially local groups,” explains the president of the Interassociation. With TGB, from Saarbrücken, the festival extends its cross-border roots. “It is logical that we keep this Franco-German friendship,” he emphasizes.
Entrance will remain free. Part of the profits will be donated to the Agir Ensemble association, which finances medical equipment for people with cancer at the Robert-Pax hospital in Sarreguemines. “We are one of the last festivals still free. Without the sponsors, the festival would no longer exist,” insists Christophe Ochs.
Since February, around ten volunteers have been canvassing partners. On May 23, there will be fifty mobilized. At Rémelfing, the spotlight will also shine on those who, in the shadows, have been bringing to life for fifteen years a festival where the music retains the sense of sharing.
