(WTAP) – Here’s a look at your morning headlines and weather for May 15.

Weather: Getting warmer across the Mid-Ohio Valley this weekend

After a chilly Thursday, temperatures rebound Friday across the Mid-Ohio Valley. Expect a cold start for the morning commute (upper 30s to low 40s), then highs climbing into the low 70s with increasing clouds through the afternoon. A stray shower is possible.

Saturday brings the next notable weather concern: passing showers and thunderstorms, mainly isolated to widely scattered. Some neighborhoods may get a downpour and thunder in the afternoon into the night while others stay dry, so outdoor plans may need a quick pivot.

A few lingering showers are possible early Sunday, then the rest of the day looks dry. The warming trend continues with upper 80s Sunday and near 90 Monday and Tuesday before a midweek cooldown arrives alongside another chance for rain and storms.

One ordinance establishes the same alcohol sale rules for a new section of the business district as the original business district. Council also approved an ordinance authorizing the sale, service, possession, and consumption of alcoholic beverages on city-owned or city-managed property in line with state law—potentially applying to events such as the Freedom Festival.

Capito pushes tax relief, energy production as West Virginia costs climb

U.S. Sen. Shelley Moore Capito said West Virginians are under a “huge strain” from rising costs as the statewide average gas price climbed above $4.50 a gallon this week, on top of higher grocery and utility bills.

During a National Police Week media call, Capito highlighted GOP-backed proposals she said would increase take-home pay, including eliminating taxes on tips, overtime, and Social Security benefits. She also called for continued domestic energy exploration to help lower electricity costs and said Congress needs additional steps to address housing affordability.

Capito also discussed National Police Week, border and DHS funding efforts moving through reconciliation, and upcoming America 250 celebrations marking the nation’s 250th anniversary, including a planned state fair on the National Mall with West Virginia expected to have a booth from late June into mid-July.
