At our childhood we say goodbye little by little. After the passing of Chuck Norris at 86, we bid farewell to another iconic actor. Nicholas Brendon, renowned for his role in the TV series Buffy the Vampire Slayer, passed away on Friday, March 20, 2026 at the age of 54. According to a statement from his family on his official Instagram account, the actor peacefully passed away in his sleep from “natural causes.” His family shared, “We have broken hearts to announce the passing of our brother and son Nicholas Brendon. Most people know Nicky for his acting work and the characters he brought to life over the years. In recent years, Nicky discovered his passion for painting and art. He loved to share his enthusiastic talent with his family, friends, and fans. He was passionate, sensitive, and driven by a constant desire to create. Those who truly knew him knew that his art was one of the purest reflections of who he was.” They shared photos of his artwork.

Nicholas Brendon, a key figure in Buffy the Vampire Slayer

However, Nicholas Brendon did not originally plan for an acting career. Before entering the world of comedy, the actor aspired to be a baseball player. Unfortunately, an arm injury forced him to give up that career. Suffering from stuttering throughout his youth, the 54-year-old actor turned to acting to overcome it. He initially appeared in commercials before transitioning to medical studies. He quickly dropped out of his studies and pursued various jobs like janitor, plumber, waiter, and production assistant before returning to Hollywood.

Revealed in 1997 alongside Sarah Michelle Gellar and Alyson Hannigan, Nicholas Brendon became an essential figure in Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Portraying Xander (Alexander Harris) the loyal and clumsy best friend of the vampire slayer, his character brought the humor the series needed. After the show ended in 2003, he continued his TV career, appearing in Criminal Minds as recurring character Kevin Lynch, and in the series Kitchen Confidential alongside Bradley Cooper. In cinema, fans of science fiction will remember his performance in the psychological film Coherence released in 2013.

Nicholas Brendon had faced addiction issues

Nicholas Brendon did not achieve the same success as Buffy the Vampire Slayer in the following years of his career. The actor publicly battled depression and addiction problems that led to several legal issues. He was charged with domestic violence and faced legal troubles due to drug use. In 2022, Nicholas Brendon was hospitalized urgently after a cardiac arrest. He passed away peacefully in his sleep.
