Donald Trump is determined to see the United States expand. Since the beginning of his term, he has been pressuring sovereign countries and autonomous territories. He continued this method on Tuesday.
On his platform Truth Social, he posted a drawing showing Venezuela in the colors of the United States with the caption “”51st State”. The White House tenant often boasts of controlling this Latin American country, after capturing the former president Nicolas Maduro on January 3rd.
Caracas insists on Venezuela’s independence
The American president, who has repeatedly threatened to make Canada the “51st American state” during his term, is now shifting his ambitions towards Venezuela. In March, he had already posted a message mentioning this possibility: “”Good things are happening in Venezuela these days […] State number 51, anyone?”

The interim president of Venezuela, Delcy Rodriguez, denied this possibility on Monday, stating that it had “never been considered”, because “if there is one thing that we, Venezuelans, have, it is that we love our independence process, we love our heroes and heroines”. She added that her government was working on “a diplomatic cooperation agenda” with the United States, after reestablishing diplomatic relations with Washington in March, which had been broken by Nicolas Maduro seven years ago.
