Celebrities are increasingly the preferred targets of home jacking, these burglaries which take place in the presence of the occupants of a house or apartment. Monday May 11, comedian Michaël Youn paid the price. To avoid being victims, should stars be more discreet about their private lives?
Would burglarizing celebrities become more and more of a dream for criminals? This is perhaps the case of the two hooded men who entered the residence of actor Michaël Youn and his partner Isabelle Funaro, Monday May 11, near Aix-en-Provence. The two burglars entered the house at 8 a.m., one of them with a gun in hand, and left with quite a bit of loot: jewelry and money. The couple’s children were present at the time of the incident, but no one was physically injured, reports ICI Provence.
Before the French actor, many personalities were victims of home-jacking. In June 2025, this was the case for TV presenter Christophe Beaugrand. Two years before him, radio host Bruno Guillon had experienced trauma when he saw five people aged 19 to 35 arrive at his home in the middle of the night. Athletes are also not spared from this phenomenon. The house of former PSG goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma was broken into one night in July 2023, for damage estimated at 500,000 euros, recalls Lequipe.
Celebrities victims of their success
The most resounding home-jacking, perhaps the very one that launched this terrible trend, particularly in the French capital, is that of the hotel room in which Kim Kardashian was staying. During Paris fashion week in 2016, the “grandfather robbers” left with nine million euros in loot during a heist lasting around ten minutes. The American star had been kidnapped during the night by the criminals.
Although all of these celebrities mentioned obviously do not have the same relationship with sharing their private lives, particularly on social networks, they all remain public figures. In the collective imagination, and no doubt rightly so, they are all suspected of earning a fairly good living and, thus, of owning jewelry, watches or any other fortune capable of attracting robbers. And as long as these celebrities share their active lives on video, with busy evenings, criminals could even say to themselves that it is easy to go and burglarize a home in the absence of its occupants!
