The first museum dedicated to the Beatles in London will open in 2027 at 3 Savile Row, the building where the “Fab Four” recorded the album Let It Be et gave their final concert, announced Monday May 11 Paul McCartney. In this space spread over seven levels, fans will have access to new archives, temporary exhibitions and a shop.
It will also be possible to visit a reconstruction of the basement studio where the group recorded Let It Bereleased in 1970, as well as the roof on which John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr gave their final public performance, on January 30, 1969. Visitors will be able to relive the concert, recently popularized by the documentary series Get Back de Peter Jackson.
3 Savile Row, a street in London known for its tailoring workshops, was the headquarters of Apple Corps, the Beatles’ company behind the museum project.
“Tourists come to England and can go to Abbey Road but they can’t go inside”McCartney emphasized to the BBC, referring to the studios made famous around the world by the album Abbey Road from 1969, the cover photo of which has passed down to posterity. “So I thought it was a great idea.” to open this museum, he added. He said to himself “impatient” to see the project succeed. “It was an incredible experience to return to 3 Savile Row recently and visit the grounds. There are so many treasured memories in those walls, not to mention the roof.”commented the 83-year-old star in a press release from Apple Corps. “It’s like coming home”for his part declared Ringo Starr, 85 years old, the only other member of the Beatles still alive.
“We are thrilled to bring Apple Corps back to its spiritual home”declared its CEO, Tom Greene, emphasizing that “Fans will finally be able to explore the interior of this iconic venue, including the roof that has remained intact since 1969.”
The group’s hometown of Liverpool in the northwest of England is already home to two museums dedicated to the Beatles – the Liverpool Beatles Museum and The Beatles Story – but neither is officially approved by Apple Corps.
