Donald Trump says Iran-US ceasefire under ‘life support’

Donald Trump declared on Monday that the ceasefire between the United States and Iran was “under life support” and that he was considering restarting his operation to protect ships crossing the Strait of Hormuz, amid stalled negotiations between Washington and Tehran.

“The ceasefire is on massive life support, like when the doctor walks in and says: Sir, your loved one has exactly a 1% chance of survival,” he said in the Oval Office of the White House.

After more than a month of ceasefire, the two sides have so far failed to reach an agreement to permanently end the war.

In this context, Donald Trump said during a telephone call with a Fox News journalist on Monday that he was considering restarting his operation called “Project Liberty,” aimed at allowing the hundreds of stranded ships in the Gulf to pass through the strait, which was briefly implemented last week. His decision has not been finalized, Fox News notes.

The American president had paused it on May 5, the day after its launch, citing the “great progress toward a comprehensive and final agreement with Iranian leaders.”

Donald Trump has reiterated from the White House that the United States will achieve “a complete victory” in their war against Iran.

“We will have a complete victory. We have already had, in theory, a complete victory from a military perspective,” he said.
