A day dedicated to projects financed by European funds and to supporting initiative leaders will be held in Kourou as part of the 17th edition of “Joli Mois de l’Europe”
The Savanes Local Action Group (GAL) is organizing a day dedicated to “Joli Mois de l’Europe” in order to present the projects financed by European funds and to support future leaders of initiatives in the region, Wednesday May 13, at the Maison de la Jeunesse des Savanes, in Kourou.
The Savanes territory is one of the five “Link between rural economy development actions” (LEADER) territories approved in Guyana. Since the 2014-2020 program, more than 2.1 million euros have been mobilized for local development. According to figures communicated by the LAG, 171 project leaders were received and 36 projects supported, for 1.6 million euros from the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (EAFRD).

The funding supported projects linked to tourism, agriculture, culture, crafts or heritage. Among the achievements are the renovation of the Kalawachi carbets, actions to support farmers in the Iracoubo basin, ecotourism activities and even the scenography of the Pripris de Yiyi natural site. Cultural events and actions to promote the destination” Savannas of Guyana ” also benefited from this aid.
The event will present the European LEADER and OS5 systems as well as several projects financed in recent years in the municipalities of Sinnamary, Iracoubo, Saint-Élie and the rural area of Kourou.
The morning will be devoted to institutional partners and the afternoon will be open to project leaders and the general public. On the day’s program: testimonies, discussions and fun activities around Europe.
