Israel sent anti-aircraft defense systems and the personnel responsible for operating them to the United Arab Emirates during the war with Iran, the American ambassador to Israel said Tuesday.
“Can I say a word of appreciation, deep appreciation and deep admiration for the UAE? ” Mike Huckabee said during a conference at Tel Aviv University.
“They were the first signatories of the Abraham Accords (normalization with Israel, Editor’s note) and look at the benefits they gained from it. Israel has just sent them batteries from the +Iron Dome+ (…) How is this done? Because extraordinary relations unite the United Arab Emirates and Israel,” he said.
The Emirates were targeted almost daily by Iran during the war in the Middle East, triggered on February 28 by the joint attack by the United States and Israel against Tehran.
According to the UAE Minister for International Cooperation, Reem al-Hashimy, interviewed on April 19 by the American television channel ABC, the country was the target of more than 2,800 missiles and drones during the first 40 days of the war.
A ceasefire came into effect last month but Abu Dhabi has since reported several missile and drone attacks from Iran.
The UAE, which has significant oil reserves, is one of the United States’ main allies in the region and is among the Arab countries that have normalized relations with Israel, following the signing of agreements during the first term of US President Donald Trump in 2020.
