“We received a letter from the town hall specifying that we had to put these activities on standby, for security reasons,” explains Stéphane Pérez, one of the four co-managers of the establishment. “The municipality wants to be sure that everything is in order, we are going to have an exchange with them,” he adds.

According to him, these requests follow the accident in Crans-Montana, in Switzerland, where 41 people died in the fire at the Le Constellation bar on New Year’s Eve. Since the tragedy, many municipalities have accelerated controls in ERPs (establishments open to the public), including Bordeaux, where they had already been strengthened before the elections, in collaboration with the Union of Trades and Hotel Industries of Gironde.

Final closure in September

This decision remains provisional and the letter indicates that “the town hall remains open to discussion”, according to Stéphane Pérez. “There have never been any problems here, everything is in order, and I think we have arguments to show that we can welcome the public in complete safety. We are waiting to meet them,” adds the co-manager.

Contacted, Marc Lafosse, deputy mayor of Bordeaux in charge of the La Bastide district, said he had “no more information to communicate on the subject”.
