Marie-Thérèse, 85 years old, recounts being arrested and imprisoned by the ICE immigration police in the United States, even though her green card had been validated.

Despite her 85 years, Marie-Thérèse recounts being brutally treated and inhumanely by ICE agents, Donald Trump’s immigration police in the United States. Back in France after two weeks in detention in Louisiana, she shared her experience with RTL.

Originally from France, 85-year-old Marie-Thérèse Ross married her “youth love” in 2025, a US army veteran, deceased in January. The couple lived together in Alabama, and Marie-Thérèse was expecting to receive her green card to stay in the US shortly.

On April 1, five ICE agents violently knocked on her door. The elderly woman, in her pajamas and slippers, hesitated before opening the door. She describes being pushed by the men to enter her home, marking the beginning of her ordeal.

Declared illegal on American soil, she was sent to prison in Alabama, still in her pajamas as the police refused to let her dress. Later, she was transferred to a detention center in Louisiana, 700 km away, under brutal conditions described by her as unimaginable.

Confined with 58 people in a hangar, she did not sleep or eat and lacked access to medical care. After two weeks, she was finally released and returned to France, stating she will not go back except to visit friends.
