As is often the case during major crises, the Balma Political Café is back in action. The association chaired by François Saint-Pierre invites citizens this Monday, May 4 at 8:15 p.m., Marie-Laurencin room, for a session entitled: “France’s foreign policy: a democratic issue”.

“Geopolitics, through its impacts on our daily lives, has become a concern for everyone,” underlines the organizing team. Between energy crises and armed conflicts, the collective questions the solitude of power: “Our President was indeed elected, but can we believe that foreign policy is democratic? The autonomy of the executive cannot justify the absence of debate on these questions of strategy”.

To shed light on the discussions, the guest of honor will be Florent Pouponneau, professor at Toulouse Capitole University and author of a work on the intervention in Mali. A specialist in decision-making mechanisms, he will dissect the evolution of a France oscillating between Gaullian heritage and alignment with NATO. “The impact on our economic situation is very real,” recalls the collective, pointing out the paradoxes of a diplomacy that it sometimes considers illegible. A debate open to all, around some refreshments, to put popular sovereignty back at the center of the world stage.

Political café, Monday May 4 at 8:15 p.m. in the Marie-Laurencin room (6 route de Mons à Balma). Free access.
