Jesuit Appointed Bishop of Honolulu

Jesuit Headlines: A New Jesuit Bishop, Diaconate Ordinations, a Jesuit Centenarian and More
Fr. Michael Castori, SJ

Pope Leo XIV has appointed Fr. Michael Castori, SJ, to serve as the next bishop of the Diocese of Honolulu. He will succeed Bishop Larry Silva, who has served since 2005.

Fr. Castori is currently rector of the Arrupe Jesuit Residence at Seattle University. He has also served in various capacities at different institutions. Read more.

Diaconate Ordinations

Fourteen Jesuits were ordained to the diaconate on April 7, 2026, in Rome.

Five Jesuits from the Jesuit Conference of Canada and the United States were recently ordained deacons at two different Masses in Rome and Paris.

Among those ordained were Jean Hervé Delphonse, SJ, Taylor Fulkerson, SJ, Peterson Alcius, SJ, Danilo Mendoza Rugama, SJ, and Jorge Roque, SJ. Read more.

Jesuits Advocating for Peace

At a time of rising violent conflict globally, Jesuit leaders in Canada and the U.S. are calling for all to strive for peace.

They have released a letter titled “Blessed Are the Peacemakers: A Jesuit Call for Peace” on April 23, 2026, urging members of their network to work towards peace. Read the letter.

Jesuit Named President of Marquette University High School

Fr. Daniel Kennedy, SJ

Fr. Daniel Kennedy, SJ, has been appointed as the 12th president of Marquette University High School in Milwaukee, effective July 1, 2026. He currently serves in a leadership role at the University of Detroit Jesuit High School and Academy.

In his tenure as a Jesuit, Fr. Kennedy has had a significant impact in the field of education. Read more.

Cardinal Czerny Acknowledges U.S. Bishops’ Immigration Message on “60 Minutes”

Cardinal Michael Czerny, SJ, commended the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops for their Special Pastoral Message on immigration during an interview on “60 Minutes” in April.
