IN PICTURES – In the night from May 4 to 5 in New York, a gathering of celebrities came together for one of the most anticipated fashion events on the calendar and competed in eccentricity for the occasion.
The Met Gala 2026 lived up to expectations. While the theme of the evening – “Fashion is Art” – promised great art, the many celebrities present on the steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York played along and met the challenge with flying colors to immortalize their presence at this essential fashion event, one of the most anticipated of the year by enthusiasts or simply fans awaiting the appearance of their favorite celebrities.
This edition was marked by the grand return of Beyoncé to the event for the first time in 10 years. The outfits of the guests, as usual, garnered all the attention. The diva did not disappoint: she stepped onto the red carpet in a spectacular customized look by Olivier Rousteing, a skeleton-shaped dress covered in crystal clusters and draped in a long feathered cape. Accompanied by her 14-year-old daughter Blue Ivy, who is already taller than her, and her husband, rapper Jay-Z, Queen B reigned majestically. “It’s surreal,” she declared on Vogue’s YouTube channel.
She was closely followed by the one nicknamed the queen of the Met Gala. The singer and her partner A$AP Rocky arrived hand in hand and late, as usual, Rihanna in a stunning Maison Margiela gown, and her partner in a long pale pink Chanel jacket.
Naked dresses galore
While the theme of the evening invited participants to celebrate the body in all its forms, much like the paintings and sculptures that fill museums like the Met for centuries, some celebrities showed that they mastered their art history. Like a Venus by Botticelli, some of them magnified their nudity with dresses that were more suggestive than the others. Among them, Gigi Hadid in a transparent Miu Miu dress, or the Kardashian-Jenner sisters, each dress highlighting the bust or chest in a sculptural manner.
Approaching 80 years old, Cher – who also made a comeback after 10 years of absence – wore a twisted black silk tulle Burberry naked dress, accompanied by a leather corset and a short jacket adorned with crystals. A dress she didn’t choose randomly: the singer of “Believe” paid homage to the iconic outfit she wore at the Met in 1974, a timeless nude dress.
