The conservatory of music and drama in Grand Cognac (Charente) will organize its open house event on Saturday, May 30th from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and from 1:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Throughout the day, the public can discover instruments, artistic disciplines, meet teachers, and enjoy musical and theatrical performances.
Students will actively participate in welcoming guests and demonstrations. A quiz for children, instrument trials, and various animation slots will enliven the day. The orchestras at the school in Val-de-Cognac and Champmillon will also be highlighted.
The conservatory in Grand Cognac offers 23 disciplines, 10 group practices, 22 teachers, and 440 students. It also hosts over 70 concerts and auditions in 2025-2026. At the start of the 2026 school year, it will have an organ crafted by local organ maker Bernard Boulay.
The conservatory aims to be accessible to all as a public service. The fees are very progressive, calculated to the nearest euro for every income level without any income thresholds.
For a complete instrumental course, including instrument rental, the annual fee starts at €114 for a household income of €300 or less, and gradually increases to €630 for a household income of €3,000 or more. This means Grand Cognac covers 75% to 95% of the actual costs. For theater classes, the fees range from €45 to €225 annually.
Vocal primary and secondary music classes (CHAM) are completely free of charge, excluding instrument options.
