Still wearing extravagant outfits. The Met Gala 2026, organized for the benefit of the Anna Wintour Costume Center at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, made its return this Monday, May 4th, bringing together as usual a host of stars.
Under the theme “Fashion is Art”, this edition, co-chaired by Beyoncé, Nicole Kidman, and Venus Williams, welcomed over 450 guests from the fashion, entertainment, and political worlds.
From Katy Perry to Sabrina Carpenter, Rihanna, and Bad Bunny, the evening offered plenty of surprises on the red carpet. Three French women also made a notable appearance: influencer Léna Mahfouf, known as Léna Situations, as well as singer Yseult and actress Charlotte Gainsbourg.
A decidedly political gala
In response to Jeff Bezos and his wife Lauren Sanchez Bezos becoming the main sponsors of the event, calls for a boycott had gained momentum in recent weeks. Messages on social media and posters in New York highlighted the billionaire’s proximity to Donald Trump and the working conditions of Amazon employees, of which he is the founder.
However, on the night of the event, all the expected stars were present and Jeff Bezos carefully avoided the red carpet. Overall, unlike in previous years, the evening was largely devoid of political messages, from outfits to statements on the steps. A few protesters gathered around the museum, some holding up a message in large cut-out letters saying “Tax the Rich.”
