Khalis Merah, how do you feel about this final sprint?

“We have a big match against Rennes, with two very good teams, and I hope we will come out as winners. In every game, we have the same mindset. We know that a misstep can set us back from our goal. But there is no particular pressure. We don’t want to lose our composure. Our destiny is in our hands. We just need to focus on ourselves.”

Against Rennes, is it a bit of a misfortune for the loser?

“The winner will have a good lead. After that, nothing would be lost either, there will be two matches left. But if we have the good idea to win, we can approach the last two matches more confidently.”

Memories of the first leg match: “I have learned since”

What will be important to do on the field?

“We will have to play as we have learned, as we have been training since the beginning of the season. It’s a dream to be able to play in the Champions League, we are close, we need to focus on it, but not put ourselves under pressure, approach each game as if it were the most important of the season.”

Do you remember your starting role in the first leg against Rennes at the beginning of the season?

“Yes, there were events that marked me (he had been the victim of a heavy tackle from Anthony Rouault, but the latter was not expelled and equalized, Editor’s note). We played a very good match, but these events also helped me grow, as it was only my second start as a pro. We can’t change the facts anymore, I don’t think about it. But I have learned since then.”

How do you think you have progressed?

“I have actually progressed on duels. It’s an important aspect to develop in myself. It is important to resist duels in this very physical Ligue 1. It is important to work on one’s weaknesses. I also want to thank the coach who gave me playing time for my first season as a pro and who trusted me. I have learned to play at several positions.”

On a personal level, did you imagine such a season?

“No, I just wanted to take what I could take. But for me, nothing is certain, I am focused on my job, and I am learning.”
