During the Council of Ministers on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, the President of the Republic, Bassirou Diomaye Faye, discussed the 7th Conference of Ambassadors, Consuls General and Consuls of Senegal, which he presided over on April 18th with the theme: “Senegalese diplomacy and the renewal of international cooperation: principles and modes of action.”
The head of state praised the professionalism of Senegalese diplomats and the quality of the organization of this meeting, especially commending the Ministry of African Integration, Foreign Affairs and Senegalese Abroad as well as all diplomatic and consular personnel.
On this occasion, Bassirou Diomaye Faye reaffirmed his commitment to repositioning Senegalese diplomacy around an approach more focused on economic and strategic issues. He emphasized the need to strengthen good neighborliness, African integration, multilateralism, and the international influence of Senegal.
The President of the Republic particularly called for the systematic anchoring of a true economic diplomacy in service of the “Senegal 2050 Vision.” According to him, this new orientation of Senegalese foreign policy must be based on three major axes: promoting the attractiveness of Senegal, mobilizing advantageous bilateral and multilateral financing, and developing strategic partnerships.
In this dynamic, the head of state instructed the Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Minister of Economy, Planning and Cooperation, and the Minister of Finance and Budget to propose, by the end of June 2026, a new national strategy for international cooperation and partnerships.
Bassirou Diomaye Faye also stressed the need to strengthen the human, budgetary, and financial resources of diplomatic missions in order to improve the economic promotion of Senegal abroad.
The President also discussed the situation of Senegalese diaspora, calling for better administrative and social support, especially in the issuance of national identity cards and passports. He also called for the acceleration of a special program to support initiatives, projects, and investments of Senegalese established abroad.
The head of state instructed the government to work on a five-year program to modernize the diplomatic and consular network, with objectives of improving the working conditions of Senegalese representations and strengthening a results-oriented culture in the conduct of Senegal’s foreign policy.
