On Sunday, the 15th of March 2026 at 10:50 pm, Clément Baudouin from Media365 reported that the French women’s basketball team continued their winning streak by defeating Nigeria (93-86). This victory came after their win against Germany on Saturday (85-63), marking their fourth consecutive win in the qualification tournament for the World Cup.

The French team had already secured their spot in the 2026 World Cup before facing Germany, allowing them to approach their final game of the week against Nigeria with more confidence. Despite a tough match, the French team managed to outplay Nigeria and secure their fourth victory in the qualifying tournament.

The game started well for France, with Leïla Lacan scoring the first four points. They maintained their lead and ended the first quarter with a 29-21 advantage. The second quarter saw both teams competing closely, but the French players extended their lead with contributions from Aminata Gueye, Alexia Cherry, and Gabby Williams. Nigeria fought back, but the French team managed to maintain their advantage.

In the second half, the Nigerian team posed more challenges for France, but the French players, led by coach Jean-Aimé Toupane, remained solid. They struggled at times but managed to stay ahead with key plays from Marine Johannes and Janelle Saláün. In the final quarter, France faced a resilient Nigerian team but eventually secured the win with an 8-0 run.

With this victory, the French women’s team has now won all four matches in the qualifying tournament for the 2026 World Cup. They will face South Korea next to aim for a perfect record in the tournament.
