China and the United States are “still in communication” regarding President Trump’s visit to China, said Foreign Affairs spokesperson Lin Jian.

China and the United States are “still in communication” about a visit by Donald Trump, the Chinese Foreign Affairs Ministry said on Monday following remarks by the American president indicating he might postpone a forthcoming trip to Beijing due to the war in the Middle East. However, Foreign Affairs spokesperson Lin Jian refrained from commenting on the pressure exerted by Donald Trump for China, among others, to help unblock the Strait of Hormuz. He also reiterated Beijing’s call for a halt to hostilities.

Cease military operations

China once again calls on all parties to “immediately cease military operations, avoid any further escalation of tensions, and prevent regional disturbances from having an even greater impact on global economic development,” Lin Jian also specified during a regular press briefing.

If Beijing has not yet confirmed the dates of Trump’s visit, the White House said Donald Trump is scheduled to travel to China from March 31 to April 2.

Additionally, the American president on Sunday called for NATO and China’s assistance in restoring maritime traffic in the strategic Strait of Hormuz. He said he wanted a Chinese response before his visit, otherwise he might postpone it. He argued for the strait’s importance to Chinese shipments.

More than half of China’s crude oil imports transported by sea come from the Middle East and mostly pass through the strait, according to the analysis company Kpler.
