In Durango, Colorado, David Citron is far from the green Venice high school in Niort. At the age of 22, the native of Poitou has been walking the American lawns for four years after spending many years on those of Chamois Niortais, ranging from U16 to the reserve team in N3, alongside a certain Oumar Ngom, now at Lecce in Serie A.
“During my last year, a player agency (Elite Athletes) came to the training center to present a project,” recalls the interested party, who had just brought the Niort team back to U19 Nationals under the guidance of Johan Agnel.
After some tests at Clairefontaine with his best friend Titouan Fraslin, also a former Chamois player, several American coaches called the player who stayed in touch with Maxime Bisleau, now at Fontenay in N3. And that was settled. “Staying would have meant I would have, in quotes, sacrificed the academic aspect. By going to the USA, I could play at a good level and have great studies at the same time,” David Citron explains.
