French general Christophe Gomart, a European deputy from Les Républicains, expressed his concerns about the recent shooting incident that occurred during the annual White House Correspondents’ Gala in Washington. He questioned whether the attacker had targeted President Trump or if it was a random act fueled by Trump’s controversial statements.

General Gomart highlighted the increasing political polarization in the United States, exacerbated by President Trump’s constant communication with harsh words towards his predecessors and certain segments of the American population. He emphasized that while Trump himself is not a violent man, his rhetoric can incite others to act in violent ways.

The general pointed out that Trump’s administration has intensified political divisions in the country, with people either supporting or opposing the president. He also mentioned previous attempts on Trump’s life, including an incident in Pennsylvania in July 2024, where Trump’s resilient image helped boost his presidential campaign.

In light of the recent shooting, General Gomart speculated that the incident could work in Trump’s favor, especially at a time when he is facing challenges both internationally, such as with Iran, and domestically. Gomart suggested that Trump’s ability to resist such attacks could help him boost his image as a strong leader ahead of the upcoming midterm elections.

Overall, the shooting incident has once again brought attention to the deep political divide in the United States and the impact of President Trump’s communication style on exacerbating tensions within the country.
