In the very funny What is Love?, Fabien Gorgeart questions love in cinema.

Did you know that religiously married couples must prove that their union is devoid of love if they plan to remarry? They must even, in this case, go before an ecclesiastical court, facing intrusive questions, which will decide whether or not to annul the first religious marriage. It is from this provision that Fabien Gorgeart wrote the screenplay for “What is Love?”, which is set to be released in theaters on Wednesday, May 6, 2026.

Like his previous film, “La Vraie Famille,” he chose Lyes Salem as the main actor. Known for his roles in “Munich” by Steven Spielberg and “Carole Matthieu” alongside Isabelle Adjani, Salem, whose first feature film “Mascarades” represented Algeria at the Oscars, plays a happy man next to his wife Marguerite (Laure Calamy) and their teenager (Saül Benchetrit). When Marguerite’s ex-husband, Fred (Vincent Macaigne), decides to marry Chloé (Mélanie Thierry), things get complicated. Very religious, she wants to get married in the church, making the annulment of the first Catholic marriage essential.

Marguerite and Fred will have to meet with several priests (Jean-Marc Barr, Grégoire Leprince-Ringuet) and delve into their memories….
