One of the images that circulated around Europe this Saturday was during Getafe’s defeat on Atletico Madrid’s field (1-0). Abdel Abqar stood out in the second half by grabbing Alexander Sorloth’s genitals during an altercation between the two players. Expelled after VAR review, the Moroccan defender spoke after the match. Very upset, the 27-year-old player expressed his distress after the expulsion and even swore on his family that he did not intend to touch his opponent’s private parts:
«I want to clarify that I had no intention of touching the player in that area. In football, we touch each other, we collide, but I did not want to touch him there. The video clearly shows it. I swear, I did not intend to touch him, I just wanted to make contact, like in football. The referee saw that I wanted to touch him, but it was not my intention. I swear on my family, I did not want to touch him. If you watch the video, I am not looking at him, and my hand is supposed to touch his stomach, like I sometimes touch an opponent to see where they are. I want to clarify that I did not want to touch him in that place. (…) I could not talk to the referee. I could not talk to the coach either. I am disgusted to have left the team with ten players and disgusted by this image because it was not my intention.» That’s what was said.
