OL halts its winning streak. The Lyonnais fell on the ground of Strasbourg (1-0) on Sunday, February 22, closing the 23rd matchday of Ligue 1 after 13 consecutive wins in all competitions.
In pouring rain, Paulo Fonseca’s men, who took over an hour to register their first shot on target, were dominated by an exciting Strasbourg side that took control of the game.
In the final minutes of a lively first half, Martial Godo opened the scoring for RCSA (37th) with an acrobatic right-footed shot facing Dominik Greif. Upon returning from halftime, Diego Moreira doubled the lead with a powerful shot deflected by Tanner Tessmann in his own box (52nd), before Joaquin Panichelli definitively sealed Strasbourg’s success with a penalty late in the match (82nd). Corentin Tolisso’s goal (59th), his fifth in the league this season, did nothing to change the outcome for the Lyonnais.
The Rhodaniens missed the chance to reduce the gap to four points with former leader Lens in the fight for the top spot in Ligue 1 and distance themselves from Marseille, who were also defeated this weekend, their next opponent in the ‘Olympico’ on Sunday, March 1. Strasbourg, confirming their return to form after a late equalizer against Marseille last weekend, climb to 7th place, tied on points with Monaco but with a better goal difference.
