“Prince Harry? How is he? How is his wife? Please convey my greetings to them.” Donald Trump did not mince words with the son of Prince Charles on Thursday, April 23. When asked by the press about Prince Harry’s comments on the role of the United States in the war in Ukraine, the President of the United States stated that he “does not speak on behalf of the United Kingdom.” He added: “I think I speak more on behalf of the United Kingdom than Prince Harry (…) but I appreciate his advice.”
The Duke of Sussex visited Kiev on Thursday, April 23 in a visit that was kept secret until his arrival. He addressed the Russian president to end more than four years of war but also mentioned the United States, urging them to play a crucial role in the negotiations between Kiev and Moscow.

“The United States has a special role in this story. Not only because of its power, but because when Ukraine gave up its nuclear weapons, America helped ensure respect for the sovereignty and boundaries of this country,” said Prince Harry, adding: “It is a moment for American governance – a moment for America to show that it can honor its obligations arising from international treaties, not out of charity, but because of its enduring role in global security and strategic stability.”
The two men often at odds
This is not the first time the two men have engaged in a war of words through the media. Donald Trump and Prince Harry have not seen each other since the latter moved to the United States with his wife Meghan. In February 2025, the President of the United States assured that he had no intention of expelling the youngest son of Prince Charles: “I don’t want to do that. I’ll leave him alone. He already has enough problems with his wife. She’s terrible,” he said in an interview with the New York Post.
Will the two men finally meet at a dinner hosted by King Charles II and Queen Camilla, on an official visit to the United States next week? Asked about a possible invitation to Prince Harry, Donald Trump did not give a clear answer. “He’s a friend of mine (King Charles III, Editor’s note). We’re looking forward to being there. We’ve talked, and we’re going to have a great time,” he said, ensuring that the guests will be “great people” who “love the United Kingdom,” like himself.
