The speed skating club Les Fines lames de Sainte-Julie participated in the ISU 2025 World Skating Day event in December throughout Quebec. “The goal of this event was to promote this wonderful sport in view of the Winter Olympic Games,” said Catherine Goupil, president of the club Les Fines lames de Sainte-Julie. The Winter Olympic Games in Milan-Cortina are currently taking place in Italy.

Fifteen speed skating clubs across the province of Quebec welcomed the general public to their arenas to celebrate the ISU 2025 World Skating Day. This day brings together curious onlookers and ice sports enthusiasts from around the world thanks to the initiative of the International Skating Union (ISU).

The club Les Fines lames de Sainte-Julie joined the event, inviting citizens from the region to come and support the skaters at the Sainte-Julie arena. The celebration day took place on the Glace Hamelin.

“The young skaters had a lot of fun with the Olympic track. Our older long blade skaters completed more than 3076 laps with 30 skaters,” said Catherine Goupil. By organizing this activity, Speed Skating Quebec (PVQ) aims to be a leading sports federation in introducing the joys of skating. PVQ supports its participating clubs so that this day becomes a great collective celebration at the provincial level under the theme “Leave Your Mark.”

From Sainte-Julie, the club Les Fines lames offered its skaters “The Olympic Penguin Course,” during which young short blade skaters became little Olympic athletes. They carried the torch, overcame obstacles, demonstrated their skills, and ended as champions.

“It is with pride that all members of the Les Fines lames board of directors agreed to join this global event. We were well supported by our coaching team,” added Mrs. Goupil. As for the long blade speed skaters, they took part in the Milan Goal Skate-Don. They had to skate as many laps as possible to get closer to Milan.

The general director of PVQ, Robert Dubreuil, was pleased to be involved in this international project. “The World Skating Day is still a young event in the history of the ISU. Quebec must play a role now and contribute to make this initiative even more significant. This event enhances our brand image as a recognized place in the world for its dynamism and its ability to boost the notoriety of our sport,” said Mr. Dubreuil.
