An investigation by American journalists sheds light on Donald Trump’s impulsive, impatient, and inconsistent nature in his decisions and statements regarding the war against Iran.

It’s an affair that could have cost the 47th President of the United States dearly. In early April, a major operation was carried out to rescue two American aviators ejected in the Iranian mountains as part of the conflict in the Middle East. Despite being the commander-in-chief of the armed forces, Donald Trump did not really participate in the rescue operation.

This was revealed by the Wall Street Journal in a lengthy article published on Saturday, April 18. According to the information, Donald Trump was preoccupied with the 1979 Iran hostage crisis, during which 52 American diplomats and civilians were held in the US embassy in Tehran, which he believed cost former President Jimmy Carter (1977-1981) his re-election.

Donald Trump reportedly yelled at his staff for hours. As a result, they kept him out of the crisis room, believing his impatience would be counterproductive. A senior official in the administration told the Wall Street Journal that the president was instead updated on the situation via his phone.

Since the start of the war against Iran by Israel and the United States, Donald Trump’s communication has been unsettling. He regularly makes decisions without consulting his communication teams or even national security teams. Several White House advisers reportedly relayed messages to the president to limit his impromptu interviews with numerous media outlets, including foreign ones. Trump was known to tease Karoline Leavitt, the White House spokesperson, by claiming he had spoken to a journalist and then making her wait to see what was said when it was published.

Another sign of his impulsiveness is his inflammatory statements on his Truth Social network, such as his message threatening the “civilization” of Iran with total destruction. He later claimed he wanted to appear as unstable and insulting as possible to bring the Iranian regime to the negotiating table. This message, however, was spontaneous and not consulted with his advisers.

Meanwhile, the Wall Street Journal reported that Donald Trump continued to focus on less important subjects. Some of his associates said he held several weekly meetings regarding the ballroom he plans to build in the White House.

Despite these actions, Trump’s associates claim he does not want to send troops to Iran, fearing unacceptable American losses in the eyes of the public.

Why, then, did he engage in this conflict alongside the Israelis? During his first term, he referred to the Middle East as a “region of blood and sand,” explaining why he did not want to be dragged into any conflicts there.

His decision reportedly stemmed from a convincing discussion with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and a boost in confidence from his “victory” in Venezuela in January, when the US participated in the removal of Nicolás Maduro. According to sources cited by the Wall Street Journal, Trump believed a victory over Iran would come more quickly and give him “a chance to reshape the world order.”
