Dimitri Minic: We are observing a convergence of political style between Russia and the United States

For more than a year and a half after Donald Trump’s election, is American democracy following in the footsteps of Putin’s autocracy? The characteristics of a political style long associated with the Russian regime are increasingly visible in the United States, warns Dimitri Minic, the scientific director of the Russia, Eastern Europe, Caucasus, and Central Asia Observatory at Ifri, in a recent paper entitled “The toxic mirror of Russia: how a political style that weakened Moscow is eroding American power today.” According to this specialist in Russian strategic thinking, the observation is clear: “The specificities of the Russian political style are found today in the United States, not through the export of the Russian regime as such, but due to the emergence of similar power logics, amidst internal vulnerabilities.”
