It is an act of maliciousness that led to the evacuation and closure of the game room at the Toiles Du Sud cinema on Saturday evening, April 18, 2026, in Rivière-Salée.
Around 6:30 pm, firefighters intervened to assist several clients strongly affected in their respiratory systems, some even suffered from nausea.
Individuals allegedly released tear gas into the room, as shown by the security cameras. The site’s director, Benjamin Gauthier, recounted the events.
Initially, a technical issue was suspected, so a check was done on the air conditioning gas pressure system to rule out a leak. The firefighters arrived, conducted necessary measurements with their equipment, and checked the entire site to ensure there was no danger. After eliminating the air conditioning gas possibility, the surveillance system was reviewed. TDS is equipped with a lot of cameras with no blind spots. After analyzing the footage, it was discovered that a group of three individuals sprayed tear gas, causing the symptoms experienced by the clients. Procedures will be initiated. This incident involved a large number of firefighters and gendarmes, as such actions cannot be tolerated, even if perceived as a joke by the individuals involved.
Known troublemakers had been frequenting the location, necessitating constant attention and prevention measures.
Since opening, efforts were made to have a security service focusing on prevention for arriving groups, particularly young people. Unfortunately, the mass effect prompted some to engage in misconduct. The situation was quickly addressed, with very few issues occurring most of the time. This incident marked the first major problem within the building since its opening, requiring such a significant response at TDS. The individuals present were already known to law enforcement.
The gaming room was able to resume operations on Saturday evening.
